On Wednesday, March 26th, professor Fredrik Ullen gave a lecture for the Culture and Health programe "How musicianship transforms the brain". He presented new, exciting data from twin studies, indicating that expertice is not only an effect of training, but that there are substantial heritable effects, both on certain aspects of musical abilities as such, and on motivation for the intense training, required for expertice performance.
Fredrik Ullén is Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience at Karolinska Institutet. He studies neuropsychology of expert performance, specificially mechanisms of skill learning, brain plasticity, motivation and creativity among musicians.
