Gunnar Bjursell awarded the Bernadotte Prize 2024

Professor emeritus Gunnar Bjursell has been awarded the Bernadotte Prize 2024 of 200,000 SEK for his long-standing research - and significant public educational efforts - on cultural engagement and its effects on the brain, well-being, and health. Gunnar Bjursell has been a central figure in research on culture, brain, and health in Sweden for several decades. In 1989, Bjursell initiated the formation of the Forum for Science and the Public, laying the groundwork for the popular International Science Festival in Gothenburg. In 2019, he had the opportunity to establish the Center for Culture, Cognition, and Health at the Karolinska Institute, along with the project "The Cultural Brain," with a web portal for current research and development. Throughout his career, he has published over 150 scientific articles and given many hundreds of lectures worldwide
